Ann: Mr. Gandhi, are you there? Anita* said you wanted to talk.
Mahatma Gandhi: Ann, I did. I wish I could be there with you to pour oil on the troubled waters that some of you are experiencing. What I can do from this perspective is to encourage those who are belabored by dark thoughts or intrusions to back off and think really how silly these unhappy entities are.
They struggle and strain and complicate every event, interaction, or prayer because they can’t abide the simple truth, and that truth is that God is Love. You have to smile when you see their contortions. Nothing to do really but give them a blessing, go on your way, and hope that they manage to look in the mirror sooner rather than later.
I struggled in my life with many imperfections not the least of which were my temper and my inclination to demonize those who did not agree with me. Only when I focused on my own path, on creating an invitation for others, did I begin to see how God functioned in the world. After that, the crass remarks, the ridicule, the discomfort and deprivation became not only not important but not even real.
And by that I mean that these slurs, these attacks, these armies of misery that they send cannot hurt us because they are not real. Oh, they can cause trouble and a lot of inconvenience, but they cannot cause real suffering unless you give their existence credence by your reaction. A simple wave of the hand wishing them better light on their journey and turning your attention to what is real, that is your function as an instrument of God’s love, that is all that is needed to dismiss these pitiful creatures.
So do not grace these forces with your attention. Focus on your journeys into spiritual growth and expansion, your guides, and those who have come to you for help. This is part of your training and an exercise in discipline that will stand you in good stead when you confront other challenges in future. Be of light heart. We have already won.
