John McCain and Harriet Tubman: Their Light Is Our Light

Ann: Hi John, thought I heard you knocking at the door.

John McCain: Yes indeedy. So now we come down to it, the soul goes into battle with the sword and the shield of the Almighty Source that created us in love and laughter. Have you noticed how those who have been through trauma and come out the other side are often laughing and joking around? I count not only myself but some really cool dudes like the Dalai Lama, now there's the real thing!

And you would expect that, you say. After all, he sits in meditation every morning from dawn till god knows when, he carries the combined heritage of a zillion Dalai Llamas, and he learned the code, the rules, the sacred texts, and all the what not that comes with being the light of the spiritual world that is His Holiness.

Well, I have news for you. Each one of you has the same ingredients in your make up. Each one can become the Dalai Lama of his or her life simply by accepting the truth of the universe, which is that we do not die, we continue, we learn and expand, and we give out from our center the natural light of the cosmos. We can chose to be holy.

That doesn’t mean we don’t fall down and get up swearin' a blue streak, it means that we keep learning, that we laugh at our egos and the silliness of our material values, and that we cherish the sacred spirits of those around us.

Every day we can make a choice for holiness. And yeah, I know that sounds crazy coming from me, but every day I gave it a try and was happy to do so because I saw, I really saw, the light, the good, and the expanding process of those who would further kindness and compassion on the planet. It gave me energy and will do the same for you.

How do you think someone like Auntie managed to soldier on through her long life and not give into despair? She saw, my friends, she truly saw.

Harriet Tubman: Ain’t it the truth, Johnnie boy. It’s that vision that wilst take you through yo’ life, that will pick you up eva’ time you gets knocked down. Find those folks who know. They plenty of them around, and most of ’em ain’t famous, they’s folk like you me makin’ a song out of the mishaps that life has given us.

You wants to look closer to home for these folks, celebrate their presence in your life, and see if you cain't soak up some of that jumpin' juice that keeps 'em goin’. Though as different as chalk from cheese, Johnnie boy, Bobby Kennedy, and Joe Biden carried that light, Michael King too.* They out there, keep yo’ eye out, and you will see that you ain’t just cryin’ in the wilderness.

Take my new friend Robin Williams and, yes, you, Richie Burton, you old fraud. Look no further than Princess Diana who had that light shining out of her no matter how hard life tried to shake it outta her.

Now go on and name a few in yo’ own life, young, old, human, and otherwise, these are your guides and role models, not to emulate but to join side by side our spirits to theirs, to the commitment to a full throated celebration of the love that created us, love that will never be buried no matter how many dark minded folks try to shovel their own dirt over us.

Join us. We are a joyful army, and we have a lotta fun. You won’t regret it!
