John McCain Votes No On Repealing Obamacare

John McCain: Did I hear someone call my name?*

Where the hell have you been, Annie? I’ve been sitting around here trying to be patient, just twiddling my thumbs and then finally jumping up and down to get your attention, but there you are, moping around, running from one little thing to the next, never looking up, never looking around. For God’s sakes, Annie, stay in touch.

Ann: I thought you were the one that said “Keep on keepin’ on.”

John: Well, no, that was Auntie,** but I took it to heart as it was pretty close to my own approach, and seriously, I do understand that that’s what you’ve been trying to do, but we’re out here trying to help you, girl, so take a breath and look around.

Ann: OK, trying to do that now, but, as I and a lot of other people have commented, it’s not a pretty view. Do you have some words of wisdom for us?

John: Not really, but I have some jumpin’ powder that will hopefully get you off the dime.

There you are, you folks out there, moaning around, wringin’ your hands and sayin' how awful it is that this country, our country, should descend to the depths of hell that we thought were reserved for other less elevated societies.

Well, I guess that shows us, doesn’t it? Pretty much like everyone else, aren’t we? So we’re just going to have to go through the wringer because it’s our time in the barrel.  And don’t think it won’t be remembered how we took it, where we took it, and what we did with it when we got there.

It is for us now to look tyranny in the face, to call out bigotry and graft wherever we see them flourishing. The light of day is what’s needed here, and every time we see that darkness, we need to shine that light on it because evil cannot flourish in the light or in the glory of eternal love.

I know, God help me, I know the cost. And it’s not just the cost that each one of you takes on themselves; it’s a cost that you bring to those around you when you speak truth to power, when you stand up and yell, when you let yourself be counted.

But that cost is nothing to what you will pay if you fail to do so.  I won’t even begin to discuss the excrement that has invaded the souls of some my colleagues and dear friends. Never did I think it could happen to them.

Now we see that we have proved to be ordinary mortals just like everyone else, just as susceptible to fear, greed, and corruption. I could have been one of them but for the grace of God.

My heart breaks for those who have lost their way, but this is not where I put my focus. Now I look to the future, I look to the light that yields compassion and returns us to a sacred order that can come out these hard times if we persevere.

So yes, with Auntie, once again I say, “Keep on keepin’ on.”

It’s all we can do, and trust me when I say that it will be enough. She and I and a host of heavenly hosts will be right behind you, around and in front of you, for we are all in this together, and together we can turn the tide of history.
