John McCain: Seize The Day!
John has really gotten the hang of getting my attention beyond any possibility of ignoring. But why would I want to do that when he has aimed his considerable energy at helping us through these challenging times?
Ann: Hi John, nice of you to drop in.
John: Butt in, you mean*, but whatever gets the job done, that’s my motto.
I am here because I have been watching many of you let the air out of your balloons now that Joe has won because you are so accustomed to being in worry mode that you immediately turn your attention to the next problems that might arise.
What if he doesn’t get the Senate?
What if they don’t let him in the door of the White House?
What if they keep him out of the government until the last possible moment?
What if the Trump machine torpedoes every plan for cleaning up the mess that was regurgitated on that clown’s watch?
Can you see the pattern? And it’s a pattern that is not helping you. I won’t say that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it sure does take the bloom off the rose. What we need now is positive energy.
Take a leaf out of Joe’s book. Do you see him wringing his hands? Does he seem frightened by the opposition that he can see coming or all the insults being thrown at his head? No. And do you know why not? Come on my friends, give it a guess, whadya think? Do I see a show of hands?
Yes, you over there in the corner, quietly attending to your child’s education on zoom, laughing and playing with her to fill up some of the hours that she is missing with her friends.
And you, up on the soap box, and you, out in the streets, shouting for joy and dancing because you know, you know that this nightmare has ended.
And you, getting up in the dark to get to the hospital to take care of the thousands of people who are falling to the Covid virus. You are exhausted and, yes, fearful, but you know your job, and you do it.
Then look at Joe. He too is doing his job with relentless concentration. He is not about to let himself be pulled off course by fantastical threats that take up space only in the deluded mind of a raging and defanged paper tiger.
Please, please my friends, do not let the habit of fear and anxiety rob you of the present day. If you do, you will be succumbing to the chaos sowed by our soon to be former commander in chief.
And while we’re talking about that, please take comfort in knowing that there are forces that will slow and hopefully stall the more dangerous actions of that ersatz commander before they destroy our national defense. He is under surveillance, never fear.
You have to trust that people are doing their jobs just as you are doing yours. The trick is to avoid paralysis and to appreciate those gifts that have come to us this day, with this election, and with this President Elect. Keep your eyes on him, not the shiny objects that Fat Ass is throwing your way. Just look away from those false objects and get on with the joy of making this country just again.
It’s a doable job, my friends, and those of you on the planet are lucky to be a part of this great reclamation. Go for it!
