Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Prayer For All Of Us

As I was meditating - or trying to - I heard Dr. King offer a prayer on my behalf but clearly something that was not meant for me alone so. it brought me to my knees, and I have still not recovered. Perhaps that is the point.

Dr. King: Dear Lord, grant this little child of God the courage and the strength to continue in the way that you have set before her. She is not weak, but she needs your help and assistance. Jesus, please stay with her, put your hand under her elbow when times challenge her to turn back, for that is not your way.

Lord, all of us need your help to continue in your way and to work on your behalf because we cannot see fully now. But a time is coming when the light will shine on the work of your hands, and eyes once blind will see the unfettered joy and kindness of your creation. And then we will fall down in reverence for each grain of sand that you have created.

Help this child, Lord, and let her know that we will be there to intercede when she falters, to catch when she falls, and to help her stand up again in your name. For you are the power, the majesty and the glory of the kingdom of kindness that is offered by our Creator. Let us carry on as best we can, trusting in you to see where we are blind, to carry us when we can no longer walk, and to shine your light on our path so that our way is clear.

In Jesus name, amen.
