Paul Revere

In your time, so different and so similar to my own,

we must each claim our part.

Ann: Mr. Revere?*

Paul Revere: Yes. I gather you are surprised to hear from me.

Ann: Yes. The only thing I know of you is the Copley portrait (above), your beautiful silver, and “the one if by land and two if by sea” legend.

Paul Revere: Yes, well, it didn’t really happen quite like that.

What did happen was the uprooting of the lives of every man, woman, and child who lived within the ambit of the encroaching revolution. We feared, we suffered, we were hungry, injured and dying, but we knew we could not give in because to do so was to abandon not only our God but the holy spark given each one of us in the lifetime we were granted at that time.

We did not expect victory. At best we expected subsistence under an authoritarian rule determined to extract every pound of flesh within its grasp in retaliation for the fierce opposition that we hurled at their overwhelming force.

You see this today in Ukraine and cringe in horror at the destruction of lives, communities, and societies that will not be easily rebuilt, if at all. Lives, and not only those that perish, will be lost and forever transformed, some into relentless poverty, yes, but others into leaders, leaders not only of the opposition, but leaders into the light of freedom and acceptance of the profound and holy differences among us even while we claim our common birthright of brotherhood.

In your time, so different and so similar to my own, we must each claim our part. We must stake out clearly our place in this continuum. “One if by land,” then we follow that path. “Two if by sea,” then that is the route we will take. We must be open to our attuned path wherever it may lead, open in implementation but fixed in our understanding that the way of the Lord does not waiver. He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has set justice in the earth.**.

We on the planet are called upon to stand our ground when confronted with the naked face of evil. So often that face is hidden, disguised in seeming benevolence and prosperity such that taking a stand almost seems irrelevant.

But when the trumpet calls, all becomes clear. Connections only dimly intuited become crystalline against the corruption of their facilitators, allegiances heretofore only suspected are exposed in excruciating detail, and we are asked to stake our claim with the Holy Spirit or submit to the encroaching darkness.

The blessing of suffering is that its roots are exposed for all to see. Now is the time to look at your own allegiances and trim them to fit your faith in the evolution of the Holy Spirit for the benefit of the expanding universe as well as the microcosm in which you dwell.

Look around you. Take stock. Then declare your allegiance to the cause that you choose. This is your chance as it was ours so long ago. Make your decision to fight or go down with the ship. Nothing less will do.

This is incredibly powerful! Wise words, indeed.
