Richard Burton: How to Feel Better

Ann: Hi Richard, kinda tapped out here.

Richard: Yes, I can see that.

In times of low energy, rest is required, and rest taken without apology. We have become so accustomed to admiring the drivers and all that they accomplish that the beauty of the interior is sometimes downgraded to B quality.

But here is what is available in so-called B quality options that will raise almost experience to A quality status:

1. Music

2. Poetry

3. Nature

4. Meditation. and

5. Self-indulgence.

Ann? Huh? Did you say self-indulgence?

Richard: It’s nice to see that I can still surprise you.

Self-indulgence is vastly underrated and sometimes referred to in more politically correct terms as “self-care.” And although 1-4 are the tried and true methods of regeneration, they are not necessarily universal for everyone.

On the other hand, self-indulgence in individually tailored to the particular needs of a soul/body at a specific moment in time. That’s why it works.

And don’t start on how it may take over a life, etc., etc. My, you do like to borrow trouble, don’t you? Sometimes, Madame, you do make me tired.

I am not alluding about major addictive behaviours. I am referring to those pastimes which can offer you a short respite and the comfort of knowing that you are worth coddling, that it does not always fall to you to be the mover, shaker, and meal provider.

You can take time off to give yourself what you need, to provide for yourself the love with and for which you were created. Our Creator asks nothing more of your than that you love yourself as your neighbour.

Surely you would not want to proceed along any other path?
