W. H. Auden: There Is No Such Thing As Time

"There is no such thing as time."

I read these words in an article about W.H. Auden.* It seems to me that I felt his presence and asked if he wanted to talk to me which was hard to believe. So I pulled a rune for guidance. "Raido," The Horse, communion and release, the spirit animal that carries us on Spirit's path, without our guidance just our consent, and brings us union and reunion in Spirit's holy dance.

W. H. Auden: Ann, you do not know me well, but I have been wanting to speak with you through your blog, for on this site there are many with whom I feel simpatico, many who know what I knew, not only because I have passed into timeless and universal but still evolving existence, but because I knew, not in my head but in my heart, that there was no such thing as time, and that every act, small or large, kind or abrasive affects the evolving shape of the multiverse.

For we are not just the "I" or even just the universe you know. We are the many, beyond, above and below, going deep within the center and out to the farthest reaches of the created horizon. And we change at every movement by the smallest particle.

I am so happy. You need to know that I, who once was the smallest of mortals, a self-conscious, indolent self-examiner trying to be a poet who brought together words for the ages, have in fact become that most wonderful of all beings, a nothing!

You cannot imagine the unutterable joy of dancing around the ether being a nothing! We bring nothing, we take nothing, we are nothing, and we have responsibility only to our true nature - which is not a hardship for we only do what comes naturally, that is, to celebrate our being, our nothingness, and our connection from every little particle of our beings to every little particle of everyone else’s.

We have no responsibility for our direction, for the Holy One has that well in hand. We float on the tide of that Divine Wisdom, and, brother, do we enjoy the ride.

This is for you my friends, my brothers, my sisters, my children, my aunts, uncles, mothers, and fathers. This is for you. Leave it in God’s hands, rest in God, relax into the universal sway, and you will find your way out into this ether before you are required to die. Then your life will be a mishmash of where you have been, where you are, and where you will be. There is no time, you are not in control, and you are loved beyond belief - and you are nothing.
