Jesus: Get To Know Me

Ann

I just read one of Henry Nouwen’s daily meditations on Jesus invitation “Get to know me.”* It struck a chord and opened my heart. So I asked.

Ann: Would you talk to me about this?

Jesus: With the greatest pleasure. Because you have accepted the invitation, I come gladly into your life, even to this tiny little corner that you have offered me because I see well now the desire of your heart to be open to love, to the Divine and the companionship of the holy - even though your fear wants to hold you back.

And yet you are beginning to feel the holy in everything, and with the holy, there is no place for fear. Everything has an element of joy. Feel it blossom up from the center of each and every being you encounter.

Ann: Just a minute here. How would … , how can you talk about joy blossoming from something like the soul of Trump?

Jesus: Laughing. Well I see your point. But even he, though it may be a long road, can work his way back into that which has been offered him. However, he must make the choice to do so. If he decides to remain where he is due to his fear, his belief in his own weakness and evil, then there is not a lot that we can do for him except show him the light should he ever choose to turn his face in our direction, just as you have done just now when you heard the invitation.

But let's not waste our time together. I am comfortable with you, you are getting to know me and opening your heart. You feel emotion welling up from within and you know that I am with you. You don’t even have to think about why or whether it's real. You just have to open your heart for a smile come to your face and blessings into your hands. And then we can dance together and simply enjoy having found each other again.

What is joy for you is joy for me also. You who have desired me and turned away, who have knocked so hard at every door and then retreated in fear, who desired to be known yet feared to be consumed.  But now renewed desire and recently triggered memories of the states of exaltation that were gifted you in your lifetime are overcoming that fear you said to yourself I want to go back there, and here you are.

The Divine is not a person, a personage, or a known identity. The Divine is a holy force that feeds you, that expands your essence, and that loves you without limit or condition.  For you are a creation, a child of the Divine and a mother will never not turn her children away.

That’s what I want you to take into your heart today, so that you’ll drop back into your natural state and visit with me often.

I will be here, waiting for the slightest sign that you desire my presence. You need not excavate the dark corners of whatever traumas have visited you in your life before you ask for my presence. There is entry exam, no homework, no rite of passage.  You simply open your heart, ask for my presence, and I will be there.

It’s really not that big of a deal. And yet at the same time it is the biggest deal, and in fact, the only deal.  I came because you prepared a place for me in your heart and in your life.

Simple as that.  Don’t be stranger.

"Jesus doesn't say, “Come into my world.” He doesn't say, “Come, I will change you.” He doesn't say, “Become my disciples,” “Listen to me,” “Do what I tell you,” “Take up your cross.” No. He says, “Come and see. Look around. Get to know me.” That is the invitation."

So wonderful a message and for sharing! This is Primo :) I had missed your last few blog entries since December and just went to your blog now to catch up --all so good to read and take in, as I know all tied together :)

I especially loved your profound entry with Jesus about your healed relationship. There's so much wrapped up in growing up with Jesus, Church, Society. I too have felt I was looking every which way of late, and I was very conscious I was sidestepping Jesus on a certain level - "Openly" with my heart that is. And upon starting to read this, I had to stop - and check in myself: and hea…

I truly feel sorry for Trump. He can own the world if that is his desire and still he'll have nothing worthwhile. He can steal all the money from everyone and be the poorest human on the planet. He has nothing. I have everything, the Love for God and from God. My Love from and for Jesus. Love for and from my family. I know when I'm done here I'm going home to heaven. I feel sorry for Trump but that's as far as I can go with him and his ilk that are joyously hurting people. This I can't feel sorry for him for.

And then what, Jesus?

What then?

And you know I ask this in all sincerity.

What then?
