John McCain: It's A Big Mess

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

"We’re going to need patience and perseverance."

Ann: Hi John, our country in quite the fix right about now.

John: I know it is, but, like the man said, it’s an opportunity. Not one you might have chosen, but one that will stand you in good stead for the future, because one way or another, life is not always rosy and bright.

And that’s what I want to talk to you about. For the next little stretch Trump still has enough power to cause a frackus that will take years to untangle. We are going to have to put on our big boy pants and get to work and not complain about how it's not right, how he should never have been able to do this, and now we’re having to try to put a Humpty Dumpty together again when he wasn’t broken before.

Well, my friends, he was broken. He was broken long before those crazy right wingers thought to grab power based on lies and greed, because under the mask of reasonableness and patriotism lurked the same Mark Meadow and his lying cronies that you see today.

They’re out there, they have been emboldened, and Joe Biden does not have a magic wand. What we need now is young energy, and I’m hoping that Joe will harness a lot of that in the service of the cleanup and rebuilding that needs to take place. I think he will. He was always an excellent mentor, and he likes your people, likes to see them grow and do well. He will take as much pleasure in their success as in his own.

He and I didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of things, in particular, the budget and the military, and some of the foreign policy decisions that Obama made I thought were nuts. But Joe is a true messenger of the light. Now I know I sound like one of those new age crackpots, but that’s the truth.

It’s gonna be a right hot mess for a long time, and, if there is a god and there is, that blowhard crook will be in jail where he has belonged since the first moment he stole money from the government and set the civil service institutions up to do his dirty work –which was about 12:01 pm on the day he was inaugurated.

Revenge, my friends, is a dish best served cold and is not recommended around here. So I counsel you to keep your head up, keep your own counsel, and work for real change, first the election laws, then the courts, then the government safeguards that must be put in place to keep us from becoming a banana republic.

We’re going to need patience and perseverance, so hold on to your hats, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride, but one that we’ve needed to take for a long time to turn this country into what it was meant to be but never was. This time, my friends, we have a fighting chance. Let’s take it.
