John: Yes, Annie, back again like an old shoe.
And so it has come to this. The Ku Klux Klan and its followers storm the capital to the delight and encouragement of our sitting president. By God, if it were up to me, he wouldn’t be sitting that fat ass any longer. But so far, the vertebrates in the Republican Party are few and far between, and by their silence, they are complicit enablers of an attempted overthrow of government by law.
Those who are acting have re-formed an old movement on the backs of the complacent and the corrupt. By their actions they have defacto re-formed a new/old party, the party of the Klansmen, the Old South confederate elites, now no longer confined to one region but found in the boardrooms and living rooms of every part of this country.
They feel no shame. They are the entitled race whose every desire justifies oppression. They are the reemergence of the many “nativist” or "populist" movements and have come, gone underground, then re-emerged, such as the Know Nothing Party of the 1800's. This current crowd is the Know Nothing Party 2.0, because they know nothing, they learn nothing, they spread evil based on know-nothing lies, and their raison d’etre is based on hate, exploitation, and racial oppression.
It’s no coincidence that this “party” is the realization of the deep thread of entitlement in this country. It is just as well that they have come out of hiding because it’s hard to deny their intent when you see them scaling the walls of the Capital with ouzies and war paint in an obscene gesture to those whose land we confiscated.
Now we can see the enemy standing right in front of us. But we can't kid ourselves, it’s inside us also. We can find the roots of its support in our own souls if we look closely, any of us who have benefitted from this oppression.
As the manifested reveals of the last several days have shown us, they will not go away, they are fighting for their lives, and they think they are winning. Stand with them or against them. Now is the moment of truth, the time of cleansing of all that has been simmering under the surface since the beginning.
It is a turning point beyond which there will be no more denials however hard the proponents of the new Manifest Destiny try to spin it. The first order of business is a new voting rights act where transparency and equal access govern. Then the implementation of real reform.
It can come, my friends, if we are vigilant and curtail and direct our uses of power for the good of the people, all of the people. We have a statement of ideals in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. It is time we lived up to them.
And I cannot leave you without a reminder that on this planet power rules, and that power has not only been consolidated in those who see themselves as the chosen few of our country, it has been given away to those who yesterday feasted their eyes with great delight upon the scene of the Mother Country eating its own.
It will take years to uncover and repair what has been betrayed, and we must make haste to do so without letting these dangers be used as a fear-mongering ploy to perpetuate the power of the self-described elites. We still have something precious in this country, never fully realized, but now with the festering wounds in the open available to be lanced, the might of this country on the world stage can be re focused and employed to aid those fighting the same fight.
I know it looks bad, but we are coming out of our long denied nightmare. All we have to do is to stay the course and shine the light on each and every dark space that confronts us. Many in our country, Stacey Abrams, Raphael Warnock, and their compatriots and forebears have been fighting this fight for centuries. They can lead the way now with knowledge, experience, and authenticity.
We have light, my friends, let's use it.
