John McCain: What Helps

Dave Johnson,* Anita Sacco,* and I have been reflecting upon the heaviness many of us feel as our system of government seems to be coming apart at the seams. We hope to offer a video with some of the messages we have received from those on the other side who have been through this and worse. John McCain was first in line with a message of encouragement.

Ann: John, what do you want to say?

John McCain: Ann, I see you with your family, yes, some illness, but a family brought together by love, and not just a family by blood. Beautiful music** being played by a young man who traveled from far away to offer this gift to parents he met later in life. These are the treasures we are offered in this world, both to give and to receive. Anyone or anything that does not add to these treasures is not worthy of your time.

When hardship comes – and it always does – let yourselves remember these scenes from your own lives. This is real. This is what we fight for, not to harm, not to kill, only to defend the light. This is what we must do: keep the light alive so that it will be there to warm all of us when the darkness recedes – and it always does.

Giving way to our sorrow in dark times is not of God. We hurt, we cannot believe that this can happen here. The remedy is to move ourselves, our lives our, and spiritual core in the opposite direction. It is doable, my friends, and, as it is done, the whole will shift accordingly. Kindness always defeats hate. Confine hate with strength, and give it no further attention. For every misdeed you see in our nation’s leader, do the opposite. This is the army of light. We will defeat this dark force if we keep our faith alive, and we do that with love and generosity towards each other.

**"Scenes from Childhood" written by Robert Schumann who admitted himself into an asylum for fear of harming his wife or others and died there at the age of 46. He continued to compose until his mind would no longer allow it.
