Harriet Tubman: Blessings

The kingdom is at hand when you know where to look for it.

Ann: Auntie?

Harriet Tubman: Sho is. I don’t rightly know how you folks down there manage to keep yo’selves occupied when there is a feast of blessings jes waitin’ for you. Why, you looking for somthin’ that will lift you up, feed you one way or t’other, and you missin' that banquet that is spread out right under yo’ noses

I ain’t a talking about the food and drink that lotsa folks use to numb they senses or take they mind of something that is pushin’ them into uncomfortable territory. I’sa talking about the glory of the Lord that is right at hand. Everyone, on way or t’other, is a’waitin’ on the Kingdom, but I’m tellin’ you that kingdom is at hand.

You don’t need no angel to see a child smile or the happy look on an old face when you spend some time a’talkin’, yes, but may jes a’listenin’. And mebbe when you do, you hear somethin’ that you can take home with you and keep close to yo’ heart.

And when you do that, you gone find that they is gold right inside yo' own heart, the gold that you was born with, that mebbe some folks or some sad happening tried to take away from you, but it’s still there, right there. Ain’t no rainbow necessary for you to dip you hand in those riches.

So do a little somthin’ fo yo’ old Auntie. Sit in a quiet place, do what you have to do to quiet what’s on yo' mind or what may be stealin’ yo' peace, and think about somthin’ that make you smile, then something else. Then breathe deep into that smile and know that that’s where you live with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He done showed us the way to learn and the way to smile and he right hear waitin’ fo' you to smile right back at him. Because that is the glory of the kingdom, and that kingdom is at hand when you know where to look for it.
