Ann: Good morning, Peter, Anita* says you want to speak with me.
Peter: Yes, I do, Ann and call me Pete, I’m just one of the guys, always was.
And now us regular guys are speaking up about things that bother us, and they all aren’t the same things. Some of the guys are mad because they think they are the ones who should rule the roost. Kinda like the Romans thought they should rule the world. Some of the guys think it’s their turn cause they’ve been trampled on and singled out for centuries, and now they are gonna rise up and take the man.
But then there are the regular guys who have been guardians, who are tired and who welcome a little help at the top, bottom, or middle. It doesn’t matter just so long as there is help.
It’s this last group that we need to turn to because they have room for the other two and for any other group that has Jesus’s holy name at the center of their consciousness. Holy consciousness comes from alignment with Source. Jesus was and is my teacher, but there are many others who have walked the earth in pain and grace who can lead us to the divinity of union with Source.
When you meet the regular guys who are still on the field of battle fighting for a cause that never existed, try to listen to them. Somewhere in their anger and rhetoric is a call for help that, if it can be heard and addressed, could release at least some of them form their self-imposed prison of isolation, anger, and regret.
It is self-hatred that fuels their fight. If you see hatred projected, you can bet it is harbored within. Blame, even well-deserved blame, allows us to put all of our troubles onto the other. Even when the other deserves it, if we follow that path, we will turn ourselves into a replica of all that we wanted to destroy. For power becomes the goal and nothing else.
Listening, one on one listening, can awaken the hearts of those on this path to see themselves in each other, in the other, even for a single precious moment. Our only way out of this human cycle of oppression, aggression, repression, oppression is to listen. As we begin to understand each other, we can begin to step off the merry-go-round.
We regular guys have a lot to offer. There is gold in them thar souls. See if you can find it.
